Your white gold jewelry will certainly turn yellow, but there are a few maintenance rules that can be helpful in slowing down the process.

White gold requires special attention:

– No abrasive cloths or liquids to clean your jewellery,

– Protect it from make-up, solvents and detergents,

– To clean it, avoid alcohol, which is corrosive. Avoid laundry soap, which leaves a greasy patina on the surface of the white gold.

What to do with your yellowing jewelry?

What to do with your yellowing jewelry?

White gold is often made up of 75% of gold and 25% nickel, silver or palladium. It is natural for white gold to turn yellowish. White gold is covered with a layer of rhodium which gives it its white and shiny appearance. Rhodium is a precious metal belonging to the platinum group which is used for rhodium plating. Rhodium plating is the protective coating that gives the alloy the color we know from it. The outer layer of rhodium slowly wears away over time, eventually revealing the unplated white gold.

From time to time, we advise you to send your white gold jewelery to Redline for a new rhodium plating which will restore the jewel to its original shine.
